Anni decided not to sleep through the night after all. Purely wishful thinking on my part, I'm well aware. When I went up to check on the girls around 9:30 (late in our house), Anni popped right up and decided she needed some quality time with mom and dad. So, we went downstairs and she settled very comfortably into Daddy's arms for a late night bottle. Now, I'm not what one would consider a "gushy" mom, but lately Anni does this thing where she rests her head against your forehead and looks you right in the eye, while smiling the biggest smile you've ever seen in your life. And it's enough to just melt your heart. Last night she did it with Dana while she was drinking her bottle. It was pretty much the cutest thing. Ever.
After a little playing and some reading, Anni went back into her crib with nary a protest. We could hear her in there, chatting with her animals...Abby throws everything from her crib into Anni's when they go to sleep. She woke up HUNGRY this morning, but I think she really enjoyed the solo mommy/daddy time last night. It doesn't happen often for her or her sister these days, but they really seem to like it when it happens!

Summer Colds and Sticker Bonanza
Today was a pretty typical day. Up around 7:30. Breakfast. A little cartoons. Laundry. Playing. Naptime. Bloody murder screaming in protest to naptime. Silence as naptime ensues...
After naptime we made a run to Michaels for some new stickers. They're having a sale this week on the super fancy foam stickers and I thought it was a good time to stock up. We're gearing up for Dana's Boys' Weekend, so I'm looking for some good diversions (sanity keepers) while he's gone at the cabin for the next few days.
After Michaels, we hit the gym. The monkeys for some quality playtime with "new" toys and real live kids. Me for some non-running workout time. The past two mornings the girls and I have embarked upon some killer hills and wicked hot runs in our new jogging stroller. Today, I decided my arms really needed a rest. A double stroller, 2 kids and hills are tough when they're all combined into 1 event!
The gym was a success...especially since there's a whirlpool there. Nothing more relaxing than sitting in a whirlpool and mellowing out to the sounds of about 50 8-12 year-olds in a pool and the consistent shrieks of the lifeguards' whistle...but I digress...
After the gym, we did afternoon naps. More fussing. Anni never woke up from her nap, and hopefully she'll just sleep right on through till morning. Both girls have summer colds. Abby started hers a few days ago and seems to be getting over it now. Anni just started hers today, so hopefully some extra sleep will do her well.
Abby made some very special sticker pictures for her dad tonight. One says Daddy and has pretty stickers to go along with it. The other one is a mesh of a bunch of different shapes. That one started off as Daddy's, but now it might be Lisa's. We'll see what she decides in the morning.
Well, there's a typical day for you. There was eating, sleeping, talking, playing. All the standard stuff of toddlers and almost toddlers. Who knows...tomorrow it might be the standard stuff of 2 toddlers...Anni's this close to walking.

Abby's 2!
Abby had her birthday party last weekend and I think she had lots of fun! She loved all her presents...especially those with a Dora theme. We can't get enough of Dora at the Schmidt household! These photos are from the party...playing in her new Dora tent, courtesy of Jake and Elena Larson...and her new wagon! Vroom, vroom!

Abby had her 2-year checkup today and passed with flying colors. She never likes to actually get into the room, but once she was in there, no problem. Abby's still super tiny, but she's staying right on the same track, so no worries. She's in the 7th percentile for weight, tipping the scales at a little over 23 pounds. Around the 50th percentile for length and about the 75th for head circumference. The monkey goes in next month for her kidney tests, so hopefully she's grown enough that we can be done with the medicine protocol. If not, at least she's a trooper about taking her meds!
On her birthday, Abby, Anni, Auntie Erin and I went to Como Zoo to ride the carousel. Both girls LOVED the ride. As soon as the ride ended, Abby took off running back to the line, saying, "more, more!" I think we rode 3 times before I officially had enough of the spinning. That is one fast carousel ride!

Welcome to the Show
As many of you know, the Adventures of Abby and Anni are in full swing. Abby just turned 2 and Anni's 1st birthday is right around the corner...
Since I'm officially a stay-at-home mom now, even if I actually try to stay out of the home more than in it, and because we have so many people who love our monkeys so very, very much, I thought I would copy my dear friend Lisa and start a blog about the kiddies. Lisa said it was ok to steal her idea, so here we go...
Basically, the blog will just be a running commentary on the kiddos. The crazy things they do, the new words the come up with, the fun fits they have. And pictures, of course. Feel free to share updates with your friends...I know how the grandparents love to rave about their grandbabies...
