Visit from (Great) Auntie

Auntie Linda came home in May to spend a week with Great Grama and to meet Hunter. Well, I suppose technically she was home to spend the week with Grama, but I'm going to take part of the credit for getting her home. Nothing makes someone want to visit like a new baby in the family.

Holy Morels

Dana took the kids out to the farm for Memorial Day weekend. I stayed home with the cats and enjoyed the sounds of silence. Upon his return from the Wild West, Dana was busy unloading the car when he happened upon the Mother Lode of morel mushrooms...just behind our backyard fence! Morel season is short lived in Minnesota, and we've never hunted them at our house before, but you'd better believe we'll be hunting them here for years to come!

Anni thought they were awfully tasty...we couldn't get her away from the stove.

First Swing of the Season

The girls have been getting a lot of use out of their swing set this year. Especially now that the weather is nice and they're big enough to swing by themselves. Hunter's still a little small for the green swing, but I think he'll be doing the Superman sooner than we think.

Breakthrough

Tonight, we had a major breakthrough on the potty training front.

Anni's been potty training with a gusto for about 2 weeks now. She's been wanting to do it for a long time, but with a new baby, it was just a little too much for me to take on...I will be the first to tell you, I am a horrible potty trainer. I have no idea how to do it. I basically just fumble around until something seems to click with the specific child and then I run with it. This week, I tried ice cream as an incentive, since secret treats, cajoling and other forms of bribery have fallen relatively flat.

We went to the cabin Saturday morning. Anni stayed dry the entire ride, the whole day at the cabin and ALL NIGHT LONG! And while she never told me when she needed to go potty, she would mysteriously appear every once and a while, around the time when she should need to go potty. We left the cabin this afternoon, after an entire night and morning of dryness. She stayed dry the whole way home, and she slept for a majority of the ride home. She stayed dry the whole rest of the day.

But that's not the breakthrough.

The breakthrough....drum roll please...

Anni POOPED ON THE POTTY! I caught her as she was starting to hide, secret pooper that she is, and basically bribed her into sitting on the potty until the poop came out. She had to work for it, but the munchkin eventually pooped on the potty! Oh the happy dance that we did in our house tonight.

Oh, how the times have changed.

But, oh, how sweet was that ice cream.
