Yesterday we took a venture out to Lake Minnetonka for GigiJeff's (that's how the girls refer to Dana's sister and her husband) wedding reception. It was an absolutely perfect day. Jeff's dad lives right on the lake and hosted the party at his house.
The girls had new dresses for the occasion (thanks to Grandma Schmidt) and they brought along their new sand buckets, shovels, swimsuits and towel dresses (thanks to Nana) and their new princess life jackets (thanks to Daddy). These girls were decked to the 9s and ready to party!
I was able to keep them entertained with the sand until it was time to eat. I promised the girls they could go swimming after we ate. Both girls ate pretty quickly. :)
After lunch, we did the swimsuit and life jacket thing and both girls hopped right in the water. They had a blast throwing muddy sand into the water and just lounging in their life jackets. There was plenty of digging going on and hardly any sand actually thrown at another person. Abby really had a fun time in the water. She figured out that her life jacket helped her float, so at some point she was in the water all by herself, floating on her tummy, walking herself around on her hands and singing a little tune. It reminded me of our lake when I was a little girl. Ahh, the memories.

Late Night Happenings
Last night, Dana and I went upstairs to go to bed. To our surprise, Miss Abigail had tucked herself into the middle of our bed. She had the blankets arranged just so, a baby doll on either side of her (complete with bottles) and she was fast asleep on my favorite pillow. Too cute for words.
Dana picked her up and brought her into the girls' room. As he put Abby back in her crib, I checked on Anni. Surprise #2! Little Miss Anni had thrown all her blankets and pillows out of her crib and was completely naked, sleeping with her tush in the air. Dana and I just about died laughing. After a diaper and jammie reapplication, a change of sheets and some extra kisses, both girls were tucked back into their own beds and Dana and I had a really good laugh before we went to bed ourselves.

Kids Say the Darndest Things
Here's the conversation the girls and I had this afternoon, shortly after Anni came downstairs from her nap:
Me (catching a whiff of something in the butt region): Anni, do you have poop?
Anni: No.
Me: Abby, did you poop?
Abby: Nope.
Me: Anni, are you sure you don't have poop?
Anni (emphatically): NO! No poopy!
Me: Well, somebody is very smelly...
Abby: Maybe it's you, Mommy?

Summer Reading
I can hardly believe it's already the end of June! Once school got out for the year, I was a little concerned about how to fill the girls' time this summer. Now it seems like it's practically over, it's going so fast!
I have set up a schedule of sorts for the summer. The girls are helping me with the Hastings Farmers' Market on Tuesdays (we're selling homemade soap) and Nana and Papa generously signed the girls up for a music class on Wednesday mornings.
On the other days, we've been going to the zoo, or having play dates or going to the library.
The library is definitely one of the newer favorite things to do. They have a bunch of movies there the girls can check out for a week. And the library has a great summer reading program where the girls can earn prizes for every 5 hours of reading they do. This week they're going to cash in their first 5 hours and get a new prize! They're very excited...and truth be told, so am I. As soon as I heard there was a contest and it was a reading contest, I was all over it!
The library also had special activities throughout the summer. So far, we've seen a very funny juggler and we did an art day. The girls love going there and it warms my heart to see them love going to a place filled with books.
